March 2010
Abby had surgery yesterday to remove 5 cancerous tumors.  She is doing really well after surgery and will be checked every 2 months to make sure that no new ones pop up.

June 09
Abby did have all her teeth removed with her last dental. She was somewhat overweight but is on a diet and is doing great! She is still very timid and scared of anything new. Still needs work on housetraining. Is doing well in her foster home, it is very calm and quiet.

Abby is a Mini Schnauzer. She lived all her life in a puppy mill in a 2 x 2 cage used for breeding. She was originally from MO and sold to a breeder here in Ohio. When we got Abby she still had her stitches in her from her c section. They were crusty and filthy. Her puppies were all grown and sold and she was discarded.
Abby does not like changes. She has days when she is afraid of her foster mom and will hide in a corner or open crate. Then she will have her days when she is happy and wagging her tail at her foster mom.

Sept 10, 2008 Abby Update

Abby is doing well and has progressed some during the past year. She has learned to walk with a harness and leash and is walked several times a day to take care of her "doggie duties". If I (her foster mom) am gone for a few hours, she will use the wee wee pad without a problem. She is still somewhat frightened of strangers and will run to her safe place when visitors ring the doorbell. When outside, she is still frightened by noises such as car door slamming etc and tries to head for the door. She has been to the groomers several times and I am told she does fine. But when I arrive to pick her up, I find her "hiding" in the corner of the cage - perhaps the cage is a reminder of her previous existence (in the puppy mill).
She still is not at all interested in toys, nor is she a couch buddy. She is content to snuggle in one of her many blankies and watch from a safe distance.

Abby Update 1/1/08

Abby is doing much better after a year + in her foster home. She has gained some weight and is somewhat settled in her routine. She has become very loving with her foster mom and greets her each morning with a "smile". At that time, she begs to be held and loved for a few minutes. She is still frightened of strangers and will run and hide at the sound of the doorbell. Her favorite place to hide is under the bed. She is partially housebroken - wee wee pads - and is learning to walk outside on a leash and harness, although some outside sounds still frighten her. Abby does not play with toys and is not very active. She is more content in her many "safe" places where she can snuggle up in her blankies and watch what's going on.
